Post Election Prophetic Analysis

(An Article Adapted from a Message Delivered by Pastor Randy Howard at the Gate Church of the High Desert on November 8, 2020)

It is important, as Christians, that we see beyond our immediate situations and realize that God has a plan that primarily benefits Himself. I know this sounds strange since we think we are the center of the universe and that God is working overtime to comfort and convenience us. But God is about His business and if we align ourselves with Him, we become beneficiaries of His master plan and majestic purpose. So I will attempt to give a Post Election Prophetic Analysis that will not please everyone and will certainly raise some eyebrows. So here goes!

The first thing I want to address is ...

THE ELECTION AND OUR PRAYERS

I’m sure that most of you prayed about this election. You probably prayed, like I did, for a certain candidate to win. I’m sure most Evangelical Christians (not all) prayed for our current President to win re-election.

Now, whatever you think about the count that is being questioned and all the legal actions that are taking place around this election, the reality at this moment is that come January 20th, we will have a new President. But my intent is not to get into any of that. What I want to address is the issue of our prayers.

The fact is - there were millions of Christians and even conservative non-Christians praying for a Trump victory. But as it stands today, he did not win! Again, I am not interested in getting into all of the opinions as to why. That is not my purpose here.

My purpose is to address how and why so many people can pray a prayer with passion and conviction, yet those prayers did not get answered the way most wanted. So keep that in mind.

The second thing I want to bring to our attention is ...

THE ELECTION AND THE SOVEREIGNTY OF GOD

We believe in God’s sovereignty which simply means that God is in control and He actually orchestrates all things in accordance with His will. This is a fundamental Biblical understanding of the nature and reality of God. God is sovereign!

So with these two things in mind, number one - the fact that millions of prayers were prayed that were not answered and number two - the reality that God is sovereign, we must take a deep dive and draw some important conclusions.

Firs of all, we could perhaps conclude that millions of people were praying prayers that were not in accordance with God’s will.

And second, because God is sovereign and He did not answer the prayers of millions of people, He must have something different in His mind than what exists in our minds. He must have a purpose that is quite different than ours. He must be up to something that we haven’t taken time to consider or couldn’t even imagine for some reason. And if we don’t get clarity on these things, the faith of some could be weakened. And this is not a time for weak faith!

As I have been praying and considering these things, the Lord took me to the prophetic book of Habakkuk.

The little book of Habakkuk is not so much about a prophets words to a nation as it is a conversation between the prophet and the Lord God. As I revisited this little book and what it communicates, I began to see some things clearly. I began to see how similar the situation in Judah was to our time and what is happening in our nation.

It begins with the prophet Habakkuk voicing a concern even a problem he had with God. Habakkuk had a problem with God’s way of doing things. The prophet, as far as we can tell, was a humble, godly man, with a high moral character. But he didn’t like the direction things were going in his local city or the country for that matter. So he brought his concern to God by basically saying, “How long, O Lord? How long are you going to let this sinful insanity continue to take over the country?” I’m sure many of us have made similar statements or at least thought this way at times. Listen to the prophet. In verse 2, the prophet says,

“O LORD, how long shall I cry for help, and you will not hear? Or cry to you ‘Violence!’ and you will not save? 3 Why do you make me see iniquity, and why do you idly look at wrong? Destruction and violence are before me; strife and contention arise. 4 So the law is paralyzed, and justice never goes forth. For the wicked surround the righteous; so justice goes forth perverted.” (vs 2-4)

This cry could very well be our cry today as we look across the landscape of our nation and see what is happening.

  •  There is violence.
  • There is iniquity.
  • There is destruction, strife and contention.
  • The law is paralyzed and justice seems to be absent because the wicked are overwhelming the righteous.

We pray and it seems that God isn’t paying attention! This was the frustration of Habakkuk in his time. He was weighed down by the things he saw happening around him. He was troubled by the apparent inaction of the Lord. There was a concern when he saw that others didn’t seem to be as troubled as he was. He brought his troubling thoughts, his burden, to God. And then God gives a remarkable response to the prophet!

“Look among the nations, and see; wonder and be astounded. For I am doing a work in your days that you would not believe if told.” (vs 5)

God tells the troubled prophet, “I have an answer for you but you’re not going to like it.” God’s answer stuns Habakkuk. God tells him to look out to a heathen nation. The answer to fixing the problems in Judah was in the growing power of Babylon. In other words, God’s will is to bring judgment in a way that is quite contrary to what we want or even how we would do it. This reveals to us, for the most part, that our prayers are not actually in alignment with how God is going to do what He wants to do. And this, my friend, is a fundamental problem with us today!

You see, God is not interested in economic prosperity that makes our lives comfortable and convenient nor is He interested in a human political system that we put our trust in to sustain our lives. God is interested in bringing us to our knees and He will use whatever means necessary to achieve His purpose despite how uncomfortable it makes us feel. Yes, even we who are the children of God!

Habakkuk couldn’t imagine that God would use a heathen nation as a tool in God’s hand to bring Judah to its knees. Yet, He did! And He will again. Whether it is Russia, China or Iran; whether it is an indifferent individual, a leader, a political party, a philosophy or a movement - God will do whatever He wants to do to accomplish His purposes. And no matter how much the prophet complained, God had bigger things in mind that the prophet could not understand!

NOR CAN WE fully understand what God is doing! We pray as if we know. But too often we pray according to what we want rather than what God wants.

So what did the prophet decide to do? Chapter 2 tells us what he did and it tells us what we should do. The prophet said,

“I will take my stand at my watch post and station myself on the tower, and look out to see what He will say to me, and what I will answer concerning my complaint. 2 And the Lord answered me: ‘Write the vision; make it plain on tablets, so he may run who reads it. 3 For still the vision awaits its appointed time; it hastens to the end - it will not lie. If it seems slow, wait for it; it will sure come; it will not delay.’” (2:1-3)

As Christians, we are to ...

Take Our Stand on the Watch Post and Station Ourselves on the Tower and Look to See What He will Say!

This simply means that we continue to be diligent and faithful! It means that we are to continue to trust the Lord and be eager for Him to do what He plans to do. To watch for the judgment of God and to make sure that we are positioned in such a place so that we will not get caught up in the fury of God’s wrath. We watch over our lives, our families and our faith! Second,

We Write Down What We See and What He Says Rather than What We think or What We Want!

This simply means that we are diligent to walk in a new understanding of God’s Word, Will and Ways! We write it down for others so that they may read and know that judgement is coming. So that they may RUN from the evil and iniquitous way. RUN from the evil that brings forth judgement! We are to stop praying selfishly and begin to pray in accordance with the big picture of God’s judgement and salvation which leads to the New Creation.

So, in conclusion, let me quote Pastor David Wilkerson from his famous sermon “America: Past the Point of No Return”. He said, “America is dying! The country’s wound is incurable. It is now in the final throes of a terminal disease. The great empire is crumbling!”

Whether we believe this or not, it is inevitable that America will be judged and we are actually in the midst of that judgement even now! Our behavior as a nation reveals that America is not a Christian nation despite what so many would like to think. We are the world leader in almost every evil known to man — abortion, alcoholism, drug addiction, gambling, divorce, child abuse, violent crime, pornography, and yes, even child pornography. We are the exporter of violence and immorality to nations around the world through TV and motion pictures. We are guilty of polluting the planet and we will be held responsible for it!

Our prayers must change! We must PRAY FOR JUDGEMENT as this brings a people to its knees and purges a nation of its iniquity. We must stop praying selfishly! When we pray for the glory of God to be revealed no matter what it takes, then God will bring a nation to its knees and save a remnant in the midst of judgement!

Just as Abraham interceded to God for the righteous in the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah, so too we must do likewise! God is pleased with those who have begged for revival and the sparing of America, even as He was pleased with Abraham's intercession. Still, Sodom and Gomorrah were destroyed, but Lot was spared. God will likewise judge the United States of America, and deliver the Godly. Then perhaps, there can be a national reset and out of the ashes will come a nation whose God is the Lord!

May we with Habakkuk position ourselves properly so that godly generations will  be our offspring and they shall lead us toward the New Creation that God has planned since before the foundation of the world.
